Men on the Move Walking School Bus Challenge
It’s time for the annual Men on the Move Walking School Bus Challenge, when we encourage men in our community to volunteer on a Walking School Bus (WSB). Only one in seven WSB volunteers are male so we want to boost those numbers!
To go into the draw to win some great prizes, volunteers must walk on an official Walking School Bus three times during the Men on the Move challenge period - Monday 30 August to Friday 17 September.
Entry forms, which children can personalise and colour in, are being sent out to Walking School Bus Coordinators, and you can also request entry forms by submitting a request through the Contact Us page. There are two $100 Rebel Sport vouchers, four $50 Warehouse vouchers, four $50 Whitcoulls vouchers and two $50 Mitre 10 vouchers to be won, all courtesy of AMI Insurance.
Also, every entry will also go into a prize draw for a WSB to win a tree for planting at their school.
Entries need to be returned to Walking School Bus Challenge, ARTA, Private Bag 92 236, Auckland 1142 by 30 September to go into the draw.
 Good luck!
It’s Cool to Walk to School on a Walking School Bus
A walking school bus is not really a bus at all but a group of children who walk to and from school supervised by adults. Like a real bus, it travels at a set time and children leave the bus at special stops situated close to where they live.
The walking school bus is powered by the commitment of adult volunteers who walk as “drivers” and “conductors”. No qualifications or special skills are needed to be an adult volunteer and their work helps to reduce the number of cars near the school and helps to keep children safe and healthy.
 Kids and Adults Love It
Walking school buses give children a sense of independence although they are part of a team. They provide a safe, healthy and fun way to travel to and from school, and both children and adults enjoy keeping fit!
If you want to set up a walking school bus at your school we have the information you need to get started.
